wetloop is WISEFAKE's fourth full-length album. Recorded in 2022, the album was inspired by a daytime trip to Rouge National Urban Park in Toronto. The park's complex and diverse terrain and interwoven landforms inspired WISEFAKE to use the four main trails as the basis for each track. He mimics the interactions between rivers, land, and sky with intricate sound design, providing listeners with a broad sensory canvas. wetloop showcases WISEFAKE's keen observation of nature and his exceptional skill in handling complex sound materials. The album cover was photographed by Alice He in Toronto.
Victor Zuo is a producer based in Toronto and one-half of the electronic duo Wanderlust. WISEFAKE is Zuo’s solo project, launched in 2016, featuring the graphic works of designer Alice He. Compared to Wanderlust's song-oriented approach, WISEFAKE explores new equipment and ideas with an electronic music mindset. During the creation of wetloop, Zuo insisted on using hardware for sound collection, effect processing, and mixing, only using software for final editing, overdubbing, and exporting. This tactile approach to composing blurs the line between "manual performance" and "generative music", encouraging both the creator and the listener to focus more on the "sound" elements, echoing WISEFAKE's creative principle since 2022: sound is music.
