Yukes 玉刻 & thruoutin is an American improvisational duo consisting of electronic multi-instrumentalist Yukes 玉刻 and producer/engineer thruoutin. Both artists had established solo careers before leaving America, but their paths intersected in the summer of 2023. A shared passion for modified traditional instruments and experimental music led to a recording session in Beijing, sparking their collaboration. Three Records of Lingering Life guides listeners through the three phases of life: youth, maturity, and old age. Their merged sonic influences, shaped by their time in China, offer a fresh perspective on their collective sound. Yukes 玉刻 's processed electric guzheng, ambient drones, and lo-fi sonic explorations blend effortlessly with thruoutin's tranquil yet erratic e-pipa performances, creating a minimalistic sounding dynamic, reflecting the fluctuation of our lives. The first piece of the EP recounts arriving at Sago Islet after a long sea journey, evoking memories of an earlier time in life. The second piece conveys a deep concern for life's uncertainties and reflects on the past's rise and fall. This bold, robust feeling dissolves in the third piece, where a scent recalls a different reality, reminding the listener of our present and wistful existence.
